A recent purchase from a very reliable seller from Germany on Ebay. With this fellow you get exactly what you pay for, with a very reliable and fair minded description:-
FINE VERY RARE ANTIQUE BAKELITE STAUNTON PATTERN CHESS SET & CHESS BOX, C.1930 | eBay
It is well worth reading with care – no garbage claims -, just good old honest admissions re the set’s maker or origin, which is exactly what I like to hear. The word ‘rare’ is so overused one could easily say that some sellers are talking out of their rear end with rubbish claims. I have never seen such a set before, and I fully expected to face fierce competition to win it fair and square. I have been collecting early plastic sets since 2004, and the cost of a wooden Jaques set and original box can vastly exceed the total cost of my complete plastic collection yet some of these sets are extremely difficult to get – Scrooge like bidding fails miserably! Even some CCI members won’t part with these chessmen, and even Jack Russell Dog type nibbling at them plus decent cash offers fails badly. Simply because once sold getting another identical one is close to impossible.
