A NEW FAKE CARTON PIERRE BOX HAS SURFACED!

IN JANUARY 2019 A FRESH MONSTER APPEARED ON EBAY – WITH A HORRIBLE PLASTIC FINISH BACKED BY COMPRESSED FOAM WHICH HAD ZERO ANTIQUE CONTENT FOR A CARTON PIERRE BOX MOULDED FROM A GENUINE ANTIQUE ONE. THE RESULT WAS SO HIDEOUS THAT ANY COLLECTOR WOULD WANT RID OF THIS EVIL BEAST. WHY MAKE SUCH RUBBISH ???! SOME YEARS AGO ON MY PICASA WEB ALBUMS I PUBLISHED A PUBLIC ALBUM ENTITLED ‘FAKE V REAL CARTON PIERRE BOXES‘ WHICH OFFERS SOME DECENT INFORMATION TO CONFIRM IF THE BOX IS GENUINE. SADLY THE PICASA WEB ALBUMS ARE HARDER AND HARDER TO SOURCE BUT IT IS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT IF SUSPICIOUS.

This very suspicious looking so-called Carton Pierre box was offered by this auction house:-

I contacted the auctioneer and stated my reservations about this item and this was offered  – ‘in the style of’, which in my opinion stinks bigtime as the auction house declined to publish the price realised. To be informed over the telephone that this very misleading description is ‘acceptable’ to any buyer is far from ideal, and kills any faith in any auction house – the person who bought the item has what looks like a right infected thanksgiving turkey! There are a number of antique-looking items out there with faked up old finishes, but this attitude combined with pretty crappy photos makes buying at some auction houses even more risky. It might be nice if any of the current TV programmes focused on this dubious practice….
