A phelonic resin chess set 1930’s?

I purchased this early handmade phelonic resin set on e bay USA in 2007, and I have yet to see an identical set. I purchased the chessmen without any original box or case with the pieces being translucent. The set of chessmen are pictured on a later plastic chessboard.  This set may well be rather rare and with a 8cms king, and to take a guess as to its origin possibly from central Europe somewhere?

Even studies of early plastic sets on Google photos have failed to be of assistance, but I will soldier on in a vain attempt to find out what I can about this interesting set because such early plastic tend to be rather costly to purchase, so it is easy to use the possibly/ probably Bakelite route for cash to feed the family!
