A vintage vegetable ivory tropical bird chess set

This charming Tagua nut was a recent purchase from Potteries Auctions, and I believe it was once owned by the very affable Tony Raynes whom I met at the CCI 2010 Cambridge meeting. He sadly has left us, but as he was a well- known CCI member, this set caught my eye as I thought it might make a delightful gift for my daughter, Sinead, due to her being a Harry Potter fan as a child – the owls were the clincher for me. The good thing about being a collector is that one can often leave the door open by opting to buy something different rather than being rigid or inflexible. Having recently lost in a Klittich Auction for a similar type set, well thisĀ one became a must have buy.
