early 20th century weighted staunton

A very recent fresh meat purchase from e bay , after a late dog bidding fight versus a dealer. came without an

original box, which I believe is English. I wanted this set badly since I have three versions of this type of Staunton, with bucked toothy knights, with a lovely polished finish , this weighted set is very nice to handle. the king being a smidgeon over 10cms & a base width of just under 5 cms . on the black side the graining of the wood is clearly visible through the polish and gives the dark side a classy look. the weighted pieces are not too heavy and perhaps its condition is so good, with zero damage, which suggests that it was well looked after , for a set weighing approx. 1600 grams .this was a bidding war I had to win as having to pay over 4 times my high bid to

capture this e bay booty , thus the nature is the reality of the E BAY HUNT,but I am delighted to own this lovely set, which not being a Jaques the most sought after of Staunton sets, well it is a great thing that there is plenty

of variety out there to collect, this set is housed on a vintage tooled leather board with squares of large size , essential for pieces as large as these .
