Old looking English Pattern Chess Set

I recently purchased this rather interesting looking English pattern set on Ebay, it was more than fairly described when compared to many other offerings:-

The set has slope knights or can be called ‘abstract’ rather than having carved heads. King height is 6cms, base width 3cms. The quality seller pointed out plenty of detail and could not be faulted in any way with the description. I took the opportunity to make a decent looking offer and it was most gratefully accepted quickly-always good when this happens, waiting can be agony when keen! The set was sent quickly, and I decided to get some views from fellow collectors – both CCI members-, and informed them both that my gut feeling was that the set was unlikely to be early 19th century. Each and every piece was carefully studied, and the only turning variation was in the main minimal. The opposing kings and queens had noticable differences as do the rooks, but far from serious. After our views were discussed we all agreed that this set was not as old as I would have liked to have believed it was. With minor damage and minimal wear, I finally concluded that there was no point in kidding myself, and I accepted the most likely truth. I like the set alot, and this does not matter at all! Who has one? Who made it? – I don’t know!
Whilst nicely turned, the errors on the kings and queens rule out either of the Jones – Bill or Bertram. The 19th century maker, H.Dixon, advertised in the Chess Players Chronicle post 1850 turning lessons for gentlemen, which gives a host of possibilities when this is
considered.
Having this set is a pleasure, and I am not in the least critical of the seller and have no regrets whatsoever about this purchase.
