UNKNOWN STAUNTON MID 19TH CENTURY

A PURCHASE FROM THE LATE GARRICK COLEMAN IN  MAY 2015, THIS BOXWOOD AND EBONY WEIGHTED SET KING 10 CMS, FROM HIS PORTABELLO ROAD SHOP HAS IN MY OPINION THE NICEST CARVING OF ANY KNIGHT IN MY COLLECTION OF WOODEN SETS. I HAVE NO IDEA OF WHICH MAKER MADE THIS SET AND CALLING IT A ‘JAQUES’ WOULD BE RIDICULOUS. .

I was negotiating with Garrick about this one and came extremely close to buying it. There was something about the board that worried me at the time but I can’t remember what. Anyway never thought I’d see it again after it was sold. A very special set.

      Hi Klaus
Thanks for reaching out. I completely agree with your comment re the board as I too was aware it had issues however after careful consideration I decided to go ahead and purchase the set as I took the view that it was highly unlikely I’d see another one.

Hi Pauline, I messed up. You made the right call. I’m glad it found a solid home. Yeah, I knew it was very unusual the second I laid eyes on it. Thanks for the reply
