Metal Staunton chess set & board

I purchased this  so-called ‘Scottish craft board ‘ with a pewter lead & brass chess set, from Klittich auctions in Germany a few years ago. Making up nonsense to flog an item for over triple its cost messes up research big time. A few years ago I won on E Bay and the seller claimed these cast metal Jaques style metal Staunton sets were from the c’1970’s and made in the BIRMINGHAM, England area – I  also i saw a similar set in the USA which intrigued me in the mid-2000’s. One might as well contact Rob Roy and the McGregors up in the Scottish Highlands to see what they make of this rubbish!!!!.

NO EVIDENCE HAS BEEN OFFERED BY THE SELLER CLAIMING THIS BOARD IS SCOTTISH CRAFT WORK.

My set is a weapon with its king weighing up to 1/2 a kilo – heavy metal indeed!! The board was received in excellent condition, and a bit of tender loving care with elbow grease quality polishing materials made my efforts well worthwhile as such a nice board deserved some care as the tarnished finish needed a considerable effort to get its lovely finish – now I can see my craggy old face in this board!

With brass and copper 2 inch squares it is a nice item and well made to boot – the board area being 16 inches, it is a good size for the the pieces.
