this elegant slender set is housed in an antique cutlery case which is very much not its original box, since many old sets surface without their correct boxes due to damage so it is important for collectors to note if a box is original when a set is given a different housing.
this lovely brown colour is a fine alternative to the red stain on similar sets, but I like it very much. Dating from the mid to late 19th century. with a 9 cms king, this set is large enough as the bases are rather narrow, but it is perfectly suitable for play as the piece stability is excellent on a level surface.
Some of these European sets are a delight to collect!
